Breast Feeding Tips
-
To bring in milk supply, offer both breasts with each nursing - 10 minutes on first breast and up to 15 minutes on the second breast
-
Once milk supply is in, allow baby to nurse as long as they want on the first breast, offer second breast if interested
-
Alternate which breast you start on
-
Signs of adequate milk supply
-
3 or more yellow, seedy bowel movements per day
-
6 or more wet diapers per day
-
baby appears satisfied after feeds
-
-
Never warm breast milk in the microwave!
-
Thaw frozen breast milk in the fridge and use within 24 hours
-
Fresh breast milk can be stored:
-
fresh at room temperature (66-72 degrees Fahrenheit) for 4-6 hours
-
-
Store milk in 2-4 ounce amounts to reduce waste
-
Exclusively breast fed babies should be taking a vitamin D supplement
-
Continue breast feeding even if sick (practice good hand washing)
-
Consult your pediatrician before taking any medication while breast feeding
