Office Policies

We hope that the following information will keep communication open with our patients and minimize confusion.

Do not hesitate to call with any questions or concerns.

01

No-Show and Late Policies

Our appointment slots are very important to us! We are always working towards providing you with the most efficient and effective care possible. Please provide us with at least 24 hours' notice if you need to cancel an appointment. If you are more than 15 minutes late to an appointment, you may have to wait for the next available appointment slot or we may ask you to reschedule. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. Of course, any child requiring emergency care will be seen right away.

02

After-Hours Calls

For urgent medical advice after hours, please call our main number (781-792-1999) and you will be directed to our 24/7 answering service. You will then be triaged by a pediatric nurse (who will contact the doctor on call if necessary). If you do speak with our triage service after hours, we may need to see you or your child in the office the following day.

03

Emergency Room and Urgent Care Visits

Please call our office before going to the emergency room or urgent care clinic (unless it is a life-threatening emergency). We offer telephone triage service 24/7 and emergency room visits (and costly co-pays) may be avoided with our help! In addition, urgent care clinics operate similarly to emergency rooms and may not be staffed with pediatricians. If you or your child does go to the emergency room, please call us to schedule a follow-up visit in office after discharge.

04

Medication Refills

Please allow clinical staff 48 hours for medication refills - be mindful of when your medication is running low. All ADHD medications (stimulants) require a hard copy prescription which needs to be picked up from our office and brought to the pharmacy - please plan accordingly.

05

Records and Forms

Please allow the front desk staff at least 48 hours for a medical record request. For medical forms (college entrance, camp, athletic, etc.), please allow the nurse at least 24 hours to complete. We can also help you transfer records from your last provider - contact the office to get started on this process.

06

Vaccine Policy

Abington Pediatrics is a pro-vaccine practice. We strongly believe in the effectiveness and safety of our vaccines. All children and young adults should be vaccinated in accordance with the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the American Academy of Pediatrics. We strongly believe that vaccines do not cause autism (or any other developmental disability) based on all available literature, evidence and studies. Please do not hesitate to ask your provider about any concerns that you may have regarding vaccines and your child. Parents who refuse to vaccinate their child are not a good fit for our practice, and will be asked to find another health care provider. Please understand that by choosing to not vaccinate your child, you are putting your child at risk for life-threatening illness, disability and even death. Vaccines save lives.

07

Billing & Payment Policies

Please inform us right away if your insurance information has changed. If your insurance requires a co-payment, it is due and payable at the time of your visit. Please call your insurance company prior to your visit if you have any questions regarding co-payments or your deductibles. If you have an overdue payment, please call us ASAP. Please bring your insurance card with you to each visit. If your insurance requires you to designate a primary care physician, please do so at least 24 hours prior to your appointment. Also, it is important that we have your updated phone number and address on file.

Our practice provides equal access to all of our patients regardless of source of payment. We will give uninsured patients information about obtaining coverage (www.mahealthconnector.org or 1-877-MA-ENROLL).

We accept most insurance plans including:

Aetna

Blue Cross Blue Shield

Cigna

Harvard Pilgrim Health Care

MassHealth (existing patients only)

Tufts Health Plan

Unicare (existing patients only)

United Healthcare

Pediatric Specialists Outside the Practice

Abington Pediatrics is responsible for coordinating patient care across multiple settings - we may need to refer you to pediatric specialists outside of the practice (i.e. pediatric gastroenterologist). We will provide you with the names and numbers of recommeded specialists in your area. We will also provide you with a referall based on your insurance plan. If your specialist visit is of urgent nature, our team will schedule the appointment for you. If you do see a specialist, a copy of this report will be sent to our office so that we can update your medical record - however, please remember to discuss any and all recent specialist visits with your primary care provider at every well exam.
